Getting to know our dental team - An interview with Dental Nurse Kelly...

When did you join the Crossbank Dental Care team?

April 2023.

How long have you been a dental nurse?

I have been a dental nurse for 27 years. I started in 1997 when I left high school.

How has your career developed since working at Crossbank Dental Care?

In the short time I have worked here at Crossbank Dental Care I have completed training for extended dental nurse duties in intra oral scanning and suture removal. I have also completed several courses to further my development and knowledge, these include, certificate in sedation mentoring allowing me to nurse for sedation cases, certificate in infection prevention and control lead (IPC). I have recently completed plaque indices and fluoride varnish application whilst also working towards gaining the certificate in oral health. These will allow me to run oral health prevention clinics in practice as well as going to schools and other organisations to teach about the importance of oral health.

What do you enjoy most about being a dental nurse?

The people I work with makes Crossbank Dental Care a great place to work.

I also like that everyday is different and you never know what to expect. The best part is being able to help patients achieve the outcome they have wished for, and see the smile on their face knowing that you played a part in that happiness.

If you had to swap jobs for a day who would you swap with and why ?

This is a difficult question for me as I love the job role I currently have. I am lucky that I am able to work in most aspects of dentistry, ranging from general dental care to oral surgery, and implant surgery.

If I had to swap roles I think I would say with a Treatment Coordinator as I would find it interesting listening to the patients wishes, and what made them choose Crossbank Dental Care for their dental care.
